Stayed here with the family for a night. The 2nd day of New Year's spent in Port Dickson. A quiet affair, a nice getaway from civilization.

Port dickson is a quiet town. Dusty roads, a few sad makeshift roadside stalls selling durians & local fruits.

Hence, the choice of a beach resort. To spend time at the beach, out at sea.

sheesh.

Besides getting holes blown in my mouth, I have a feeling my pocket's gonna be blowing them holes too. Funny how we're starting to pay to get stuff removed- like how i can never ever comprehend why a pair of shorts would cost more than a pair of jeans.

i think I should just head out on all my shoots in rainboots.

every pair of fabric-constructed shoe I own have been owned by the rain.

the biggest joke on me commenced this morning.

Pre-set off and it decided to storm.

Note, "STORM". Not drizzle, not rain, not downpour.

Storm.

I had to shuffle between checking props, the makeup unit, the wardrobe to settle and handle matters before we leave for shoot and aside from the sad umbrella to shield me, I had nothing else.

When it storms, it doesn't make a difference whether one owns an umbrella or not.

So there goes the shoes.. and the socks..

And then 10mins later, the rain decides to stop.

Shoot me please.

I had to strip my feet and it was goodbye nice comfy warm dry socks, goodbye new-looking fabric shoes. hello soggy soles.

Hello there. I come in peace.

i've always pushed myself to be more disciplined in terms of maintaining this blog.

i fail terribly at keeping a handwritten journal. mainly because it starts off all nice & dandy & soon, the contents gradually translate from scribblings to ramblings to rantings & plain doodling.

I haven't forsaken this space yet. not yet, i reckon.

much has happened in my life lately. i have been busy filming Point of Entry, Season 2.

Let's demonstrate some flexibility.

Yes. Cop shows are the bane of my existence. Never really figured out why i agreed to take on this one in the first place.

So far, it's been cool. I haven't had the chance to experience 5 consecutive days of overnight shoots yet. Not until this afternoon when I found out that 'be careful what you wish for' is soon to be fulfilled.

Sheesh. Me & my big fat mouth indeed.

And there, there was this short trip I took to KL & Melaka- only to return to a desk full of love notes from colleagues who felt that I didn't go away long enough. How Ironic.

Post-'em.

On a sidenote, as I (not) look forward to turning 26 this November, yet again, I think i've met another phase in my life- like standing in between a stall selling chicken rice & another selling duck rice.

Time to make a decision soon?

yes. aside from the dirt & dust, there's also the missing washroom.

which means, one has to cleverly space out water-intake.

had the chance to be back onset to help out with a production a week ago.

it was a nice feeling. to be back onset doing my thing that is.

Shot a fight sequence at an abandoned factory. every step i took, i saw mini-versions of 'the cloud' rising from my feet.

times like these, it'd be wise to come prepared. either way, one's going home with nostrils which are black on the inside. Still, better to minimize than not.

I really take my hat off to the artistes though.

With a face full of makeup & a head full of hairspray, one has to look sleek & camera-ready all the time.

1) Standby a box of disposable masks. It sucks especially when one wears glasses. There's the sweat, fog & well, at least you can keep your breath to yourself (especially when water intake is minimal)

2) Borrow boxes from the crew to sit on. There's no way you'd even wanna think about resting your butt on the floor. If there isn't enough space for 2 to share, find a spot to stand on :D

3) Towels. Wet them towels, wrap them around head / face / neck. Heat reduction friendly.

managed to source for this place online when i decided on my recent short getaway.

my first homestay.
coincidentally, it is designed by one of the mentors whom I had the honor to meet on HP SPACE.

set up on a hill, it is clustered amidst the terraced-house neighbourhood.
cab drivers may have a little trouble finding this place but yes, thank god for the hard copies of google maps which i printed out. Haha.

Upon entry. That's the pool by the way.

The interesting thing about the pool was - it looked superb for a dip, on the website. Upon closer inspection, I think the insects were a step ahead of me. So yea, gave the pool a miss.

There are 8 rooms altogether. When I was there, only 3 rooms were occupied. I hardly ever got the chance to meet any of the occupants. Except for the China couple who stayed in the room (this picture, top right hand corner). It was a hi-bye, where's the trash? moment. that was the end of it.

An Art space all around.

Day-bed outside my room. Nice place to have an afternoon nap.

Planned on undraping the mozzie net at night. But it failed. Cos there were bugs stuck in it. Upon release, it would mean that I wouldn't even get to sleep on my bed anymore. Haha.

There's a tv & dvd player. In general, i didn't get to watch tv at all. Because it couldn't receive any channels. But then again, it's mounted so high I would probably get a neck cramp faster than I could say, "Television"

needless to say, I turned up in pink.

this event drew a crowd of 10,000 people today.
was glad to be part of it.
held at hong lim park, it's in its 3rd year running & this year's turnout triumphed last year's.

someone told me once before,

Insightful. But there's also the question if you'll be able to withstand the challenge and keep your faith.

I think this year is a year of God's timely planning for me. I don't know why. Somehow, circumstances have seemed to proven the fact that only the Lord can place you to be at the right place, at the right time, with the right people & opening doors of right opportunities.

This morning, I could feel a tugging inside of me to open up the bible to read.

I have to confess. The names of generations of who giving birth to who and who inheriting whose throne bores me. Sometimes, you know that there's an urge to want to read the bible. But where do you start?

I've always poked fun recently about me being in a relationship with "JOB- not the biblical one". Hence, I randomly decided, Okay, maybe it's time to read about Job from the bible.

In a nutshell, it basically speaks of how a man by the name of JOB has everything- good fortune, health and well, whatever good there can be in one day and lose it the next. People around instigated him to curse the Lord and also hinted that he must have done something wrong to deserve this. Yet Job trusted in God's goodness and didn't curse the Lord.

Can one really stand to be like Job today? Can I stand to be like Job today? I know I would be quick to question the Lord. But then, somewhere else in the bible (1Cor 10:13), it says that, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

I don't know why I'm sharing this either. It just came to mind. Perhaps, one of you out there needed to read this, needed to know of this today. Perhaps, somewhere deep down inside of me, I needed this little gentle reminder.

yeah. we cue them.

sometimes, it can be a simple verbal instruction.
but most times, it has to be a downright demonstration (repeated twice if you're dealing with a slower one). usually, i blame it on time constraint. come on, we don't have to cue just one. but a few of you geez and you're all coming from different directions.

plus, they have to walk like 'believabl-y'. and not like zombies (which most of the time, they do).

So anyway,

dusted out my running shoes today. my trusty old pair which i got at a damn good price. decided to run. running = release of endorphins = happier me. plus, i need to get back in shape. tone some thighs, expand the lungs, build up the stamina.

in general, i just came up with a load of crap to make myself sound better. honestly? i just feel plain guilty for having eat too much and well, the only activity as of late is to crash wherever a pillow is available.

there's no greater joy than to know that the project I was part of received overwhelmingly positive feedback. though i'd honestly hated that Wind Chan's ep had to be the finale. I felt that it wasn't impactful enough, somehow. It's good to know that my hard work paid off. This was one project which i literally was close to scratching my eyes out due to many reasons (that which i shall not mention here), but yea, at least we managed to hit the home crowd.

it was one heck of a trip.

from my travel buddy losing her luggage when we landed at PEK airport,

to fighting the massive crowd in the subway,

to having the finest Peking Duck,

to taking a domestic flight over to Shanghai,

to having my first Lawry's meal there,

to visiting the Terracotta Soldiers in Xi'an,

to taking a train back to Beijing.

I fell sick. I braved the cold. I am back from China.

My 2weeks there was nonetheless, bloody fantastic. More updates when I'm less busy. Have loads to catch up at work!

Brilliant Billboard Advertising

advertising is do-or-die for a product.

if you're singaporean, you should already have come to known about the 'bear-spotting' advertising gimmick which well sorta failed terribly.

1) it resulted in cop involvement.
2) it scared the crap outta the eye-witness. and instead of being drawn, they fled.
3) it made no sense.
4) you don't display such a stunt at such an úlu area.

it however, did draw lots of attention online.

today, i surfed the web for a few interesting billboard ads. these are not just clever, they're brilliant. of course, we can't do no billboard ads in Singapore which is boring. We should replace electricity-consuming ads on the malls down at Orchard Road with Billboards instead. It can showcase creative minds and well, save erm electricity.

I've always wondered if it storms like crazy, won't the entire building electrocute?

it was 'dare to go bare' indeed.

i randomly decided to go for a brazilian wax. Don't ask me why. Don't comment "oh my tiffany you're so free and eccentric''.

most of you must be wondering if it hurt much.

yes i won't deny. if it's your first time getting your 'there' waxed, it's a pretty hair-raising situation.

not unless you're getting it done by a professional.

I first came across this Brazilian Waxing place on my facebook page.
Yes, the wonders of Social Media.

Curiousity got the better of me. Hence I clicked on it & came to this very cabaret-looking website.

Kerry Wong, my waxer, upon a first look, is a very chic & funky person. She is outspoken and very friendly. Yes, this whole waxing session took place in a very chic-decor room in her own home! I wasn't able to take pictures because it was a Saturday when i had my appointment & Kerry was packed for the day!

That's Kerry for you. Yes, she is hot.

Anyways, the process as informed by Kerry, would take about 30mins. i like how straightforward she is. She is clear with her answers to all your queries.

I won't deny I was afraid. Especially when my friend before me told me that she had fainted upon the first strip. Geez. i was literally about to pee into my pant-(ies).

Upon entering the room, ironically, I felt more relaxed somehow. There was a bed in the middle but really, your eyes would be roaming the entire room because of its decor. Kerry then instructed me to go into the restroom, remove my pants & what not and come back out.

Well, it was heck-of-an-awkward situation. But who cares. We're all girls anyway!

I will skip the waxing process. But please be assured that Kerry is a professional. She has gloves & a mask on and double-dipping in the wax is a no-no. Screaming is allowed. Kicking her & her lamp (which is shining its glory on your 'there', which also happens to be her 4th one), is a big NO-NO! I yelped a couple of times. Kerry pauses and says, ''breathe''. For a minute i felt like i was in labour. HAHA. Seriously, I do not even want to think about having a roomful of doctors and nurses staring at my *ahem.

Anyways, throughout the process, Kerry and I conversed. We talked about everything- from our jobs, lives to men. Kerry didn't feel like a stranger, instead it was like catching up with a friend and before you know it! You're done!

After which, she explains to me about proper aftercare of brazilian waxing. I bought a bottle of miraculous potion from her which prevents ingrown hair from occuring. Apparently it's got raving reviews. So far so good!

Yes, it's hard not to get addicted to waxing. Ladies, you should really give it a try. It is definitely much cleaner, especially since we have periods. Even the men have gotten down to trying it! Awesome to say, Kerry provides waxing for both ladies & gentlemen!

I fell in love with sock monkies when I first saw one appear in the Toy Story Movie. It looked all sad & stuff & longed for someone to hold & hug. Also, my obsession with Paul Frank has been forever.

When I was in Hongkong, I spotted a Paul Frank sock monkey. Goodness knows what they stuff in that monkey! It cost a frickin SGD100! Seriously, as much as I liked it, I ain't gonna pay no 100bucks for a sock monkey, especially when it's not even a responding one.

Let's talk about sanitary pads.

Okay, if you're a dude reading this. I sincerely apologize. I'm blatant. I used to be shy too. Yes. We girls can be shy at the mere mention of "pad", "sanitary pad", etc. I used to have a code name for it when I needed to borrow one urgently from my classmate back then when the mother-of-a-menses came.

me: eh. my 'thing' is here. can lend me one aeroplane sticker?
friend: (amused) can. but must give me back 20c hor.
me: okok thanks!

Speaking of which, I don't know where or who came up with that 20c rule thing. Apparently if you borrow a sanitary napkin from your friend and you don't pay her 20cents, it will cause your friendship to end. Like what the? So i pay the sanitary machine in the toilet 50cents and we're like best friends now? Weird.

Okay. Back to the topic.

I'm not going to bore you about this history of how the sanitary napkin / pad came about. Instead, I'm here to share with you about my time at the Kotex "WOW" event.

Kotex WOW event, held at Heaven's Loft

Mint invited me to this event - under OMY. I brought a friend (Jia Xin) along.

Nothing's more intimidating than being in a roomful of GORGEOUS girls who had fab figures la. Even the girls who were picking out delicious snack bites were like erm, slim?

The focus of this picture is me losing focus taking the picture & eyeing the food.

As it was a gathering for girls by girls / women, there were many girlie activities for the girls present to have fun with.

At one corner, there was a "design your own cupcakes!"

This is like every girl's dream. To have everything and anything in pink, glitter, sparkly, bling and no one could complain.

I seriously wanted to draw a sanitary pad on the cupcake but the darn icing wouldn't stick so I had to improvise. I think cobwebs are sexy. Don't ask.

each group was given different craft and art materials to work with. Our group had to work with the tiniest buttons i swear! there was lots of glue-spillage going on, colouring, makeup-melting fun involved! every girl, though we were strangers, ended up being teammates and ta-da! task complete!

Found this new place.
Abit on the pricey side.

Hardly any locals. It's like staying in a very upscale inn, meeting people from all around the world having breakfast at this very cosy cafe.

The only downside was that it was a little small.

I stupidly left my camera battery at home. Please make do with the pathetic polaroids which DO NOT do the place any justice.

We couldn't get any table seats. and we were pretty darn early say around 10+? And the place was packed! So we had to make do with counter seats looking across the Heeren. Oh wells, had to rush off for a hair appt.

If it's your first time here, they don't have menus. You order at the counter. So as you usually tilt your head up to stare at the chalkboards, you realize it's only the beverage menu. Then the ang-moh speaking girl at the counter proceeds to tell you that the menu is eye-level. Oh. The IPAD. Yes. They've got the menu for you- iPad style. Good resolution pictures too. So you're standing there like a hungry idiot because you're too damn spoilt for choice.

I am your typical boring kinda breakfast person. Everything from the English (The classic full breakfast; creamy scrambled eggs, pork sausage, sauteed mushrooms, dad's baked beans, bacon and vine ripened tomato with toasted brioche) took my breath away. I just got to have it.

The portion is huge, but not overwhelming. I must give two thumbs up for the baked beans. I expected to get something tiny & pathetic as per the usual fare. But i was proven wrong. Damn beans were even bigger than the kidney ones. The toasted brioche was fantastic. We usually call that toast? But damn, If only i could have video-ed myself tearing the brioche apart which was so elastic yet soft at the same time!

The sauteed mushrooms are perfect alongside the bacon and pork sausage. The whole English breakfast affair whilst sipping on tea was just VERY fulfilling on a Saturday morning.

I don't know why people don't pay tribute to Sugar Cubes anymore. They're probably the most traditional and much more environmental-friendly than sugar in sachets or packets.

Because I'm a Singaporean, I CANNOT stand to have just a breakfast plate for and to myself. My heart melted when i saw the Tunisian (i cannot find this dish at the website and thus, i cannot state the exact ingredients used- but it consisted of runny eggs, tomatoes, and salami-tasting like sausages with toasted brioche on the side and perhaps also a side of salsa)

Why is this so flavourful? It's got the tangy taste if you're the kind who would rather have something different to try. A nice generous portion. The very delicious mixture is served in a 7-inch pan? Slurps.

My breakfast mate who has a sweet tooth decided to pick this. Please note, as per it's website, it's Belgian instead of Belgium. Belgian (Thick fluffy waffles served with coconut cream, grilled mango, blueberries and toasted coconut) is a great satisfaction for those of you who'd rather have waffles and pancakes for breakfast instead of the savoury stuff.

What struck me was the very mouth-watering combination of the grilled mango alongside the waffles. WOW. I am not exaggerating. I don't usually have the knack for sweet stuff but yea, this proved me wrong.
